FIRST E&P’s pioneer Executive Director Exploration, Dr. Emmanuel Ifeanyichukwu Enu, Fnape, retired formally from the organisation on the 31st of July 2021.
Dr. Enu’s retirement which, coincided with his platinum birthday anniversary, was celebrated with various activities led by FIRST E&P. Dr. Enu, is an experienced E&P (Exploration & Production) professional with over 40 years’ experience as a Petroleum Geologist. In recognition of his commitment and contribution to FIRST E&P, the academia, and the oil and gas industry, the company dedicated a week-long of events and activities in his honour.
The activities commenced with a webinar held on the 26th of July 2021. The webinar’s topic was- Unleashing the Prospectivity of the Cretaceous Deposits in Nigeria.
On the 27th of July 2021, activities continued with a book presentation authored by Dr. Enu. The book entitled ‘Geology and Me’ showcased Dr. Enu’s scientific background and his love and passion for Geology. The book was reviewed and presented by Professor Rahman of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.
The review had a personal significance as Professor Rahman, his former lecturer, while in academia, highlighted the importance of Geology and exploration in understanding Nigeria’s resources and economic contributions. He also stated that the book focused on Dr. Enu’s life in academia and industry and encouraged everyone to read it.
The events continued the 28th of July 2021 with a Special Technical Session organised by the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) which was sponsored by FIRST E&P.
While delivering the special session on the topic- Academia to the Oil and Gas Industry: My Journey, Dr. Enu presented insights on his personal, career, and leadership journey. He also stated the importance of exploration to the industry.
Dr. Enu, in addition to various other significant contributions, was NAPE’s Vice President in 1997, President in 2006-2007, and a recipient of the prestigious ARET ADAMs AWARD, the highest award bestowed by NAPE to deserving Earth Scientists in recognition of distinguished and outstanding contribution.
The week was rounded up, on the 31st of July with a retirement dinner. It had various dignitaries from the oil and gas industry, board members of FIRST E&P, industry colleagues, NAPE members, family, friends, and well-wishers in attendance to bid Dr. Enu a rousing farewell and celebrate his achievements over the years.
At the end of all the events, Dr. Emmanuel Enu appreciated everyone who had contributed to his journey in academia and industry and requested that everyone continued delivering successful results to support FIRST E&P ‘s ambitions and aspirations.
The FIRST E&P team will miss Dr. Enu dearly.
